FOURTEEN

~~  FOURTEEN  ~~

When I was fourteen the times were so good
And when you`re that age so they should
Happy, carefree so who could ask for more
I loved every minute of that age for sure.

This year the number 14 is tinged with pain
I will do my best to try and explain
I now think back with a plaintive sigh
If you read on you`ll know the reason why.

It is now fourteen years that I lost Sweep
The sorrow I feel still cuts extremely deep
I see a picture of him and I still cry
My tears just fall there`s an endless supply.

My heart will be forever broken I know
The heartache I feel will never ever go,
I miss him every day without a doubt
He is so very hard to live without.

Sweep was a dog in a million by far
Now he is up above shining like a star,
My heart knows no ease from the pain I feel
And I know the hole in my heart will never heal.

The number 14 always brought a smile
But this year I find it more of a trial,
It doesn`t remind me of my teenage years
This year 14 just reduces me to tears.
